Technical Assistance

The Technical Assistance Program (TAPs) offers technical support to heritage-based nonprofits in southern Oregon. Through a contract with the Oregon Heritage Commission, SOHS provides museum and preservation support, from providing instruction on cataloging and handling artifacts to marketing and board development.

TAPs begins with a two-hour site assessment. This assessment provides our staff with a baseline of information and the opportunity to discuss what further training would most benefit that institution. For example, if the nonprofit lacks archival supplies, our staff could make recommendations on how to house your collection in acid-free paper and boxes. One of the best aspects of this program is that the contract from the Oregon Heritage Commission allows SOHS to provide free archival supplies to participating organizations!

The Oregon Heritage Commission offers many other opportunities for Technical Assistance, available here, and free downloads of their Heritage Bulletins full of how-to-do-it information.

SOHS has compiled a great list of books and free online resources to help you and your museum.

Classes on museum topics, such as collections management or deaccessioning, are offered as part of the Technical Assistance Program. All course materials are available online here.

This calendar includes the TAPs fall class schedule. Workshops will feature topics including "Collections Preservation," "The Dangers of Dust," "Introduction to Exhibitions," and "How-To: Google Sites."
