On Wednesday, January 18, SOHS hosted a community forum on Bicycling in Jackson County. Alice Parman guided the conversation as participants discussed bicycles as transportation, safety on the roads, driver and outside perception of bicyclists, local races and bike shops, and the accessibility of bike trails and routes - among many other topics! As a result of this forum, participants decided to explore how bicycling developed as a pastime in the Rogue Valley and its influence today. SOHS partnered with the SOU Bike Program to produce this project. Pedaling History: The Roll of Bicycles in Jackson County will be on display at the SOU Stevenson Union from May 24 through June 17. This exhibit explores how the bicycle has impacted the Rogue Valley, from the introduction of the high wheel ordinary in the 1880s to how people use their bicycles today.
