History Center

The History Center, the former JC Penny's department store located in downtown Medford, is the home of the SOHS Research Library, archives, and offices. The research library is the state's largest repository of archival materials related to the history of Southern Oregon and is open to the public.

The art deco "ocean liner" design of this 1948 building (known as Streamlined Moderne style) was popular during the 1930s and 40s.  It is the one of the only examples of this type of architecture in southern Oregon.

In April 2011, Kid Time! Discovery Experience joined the History Center, incorporating in many of the exhibits from the former Jacksonville Children's Museum.

The History Center is located at 106 N. Central Avenue in Medford.
